Giving
Jesus to the World
« Go into all the nations, make disciples and baptize them in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. »
This word that Christ spoke to the apostles, this
apostolic mission (at the end of the Gospel of St Matthew) is the calling of
the Church. From the apostles to the 21st century, the Church has experienced
the strength of evangelisation.
Evangelisation is the primary calling and gift of Emmanuel.
Emmanuel and Evangelisation
Pierre Goursat, the founder, was given an inner fire for evangelisation
at his conversion when he was 19. This fire was born from a daily heart to
heart with Jesus in adoration.
Before starting the Emmanuel Community, he would evangelise through
personal encounters, by sharing books and magazines; he published a magazine
with movie reviews and organized public discussions.
With the outpouring of the Spirit, the members of the Emmanuel Community
started using more direct forms of evangelisation : street evangelisation,
prayer groups, in the universities, large meetings, magazines, radio…
Then came the parish missions, numerous evangelisation evenings, and
missionary congresses.
In their professional and social environment, the members of the
Emmanuel evangelise and testify daily.
Evangelising means loving
Whatever the mode of evangelisation, it is an act of humility, respect
and love. The testimony and the sharing of the Word are a fruit of love from
God and of compassion for the person. This compassion is expressed by sharing
God’s love for him and this hope that gives a meaning to our lives.
Evangelisation is an attitude and a way of life.
From this compassion
is born the thirst to evangelise throughout the entire world, especially the
poorest of the poor.” (Statutes, Preamble).
