Retreats at Birkenstein

The Saint Hildegarde and Saint Raphael Centre

The Archdiocese of Munich-Freising (Germany) has entrusted to the Emmanuel Community a holiday house and conference centre at Birkenstein.

The Saint Hildegarde and Saint Raphael buildings are near the Shrine Chapel at Birkenstein, in the commune of Fischbachau in the district of Miesbach, at an altitude of about 850 meters.

Here the Emmanuel Community offers various activities which are open to all and to which it cordially invites you. Full board can be provided for groups. By agreement with the manager of the centre, either the whole or part of the House can be let to groups, families or individuals, for conferences, retreats, times of silence, or a period of spiritual and physical rest.

Saint Hildegarde

This house can sleep 46, in rooms with one, two or three beds. All rooms have en suite shower and toilet. Most rooms have access onto either a balcony or a terrace.

Saint Raphael

The chapel, an ideal place for the celebration of the Eucharist, or for praise, adoration and personal prayer, is to be found in this building.

The centre is organised by the guests themselves. They should bring towels and sheets or sleeping-bags.

A fitted and well-equipped kitchen is available for guests’ use. In the house of Saint Hildegarde, you will find a dining-room, a meeting-room, and also two sitting-rooms. We request our guests to wear indoor shoes in these places.
